Abstract :
Power oscillations are a common dynamic phenomenon which increase the risk of instability and thus reduce the power transfer capacity of power systems. In this paper, a multivariable model for a power system installed with a SSSC is developed The SSSC is employed to increase power oscillations damping. Then, a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) controller is designed to increase power oscillations damping in addition to DC-link voltage regulation. Simulation results verify the validity of the developed modeling, and shows that the proposed MIMO controller can successfully damp out power system oscillations. In addition, superior performance and robustness are achieved in compare with SISO controllers when operating point of the power system is changed
