This paper discusses recent experiences using polynomial methods to solve an industrial control problem. The system concerned is a gasifier unit used in integrated gasification combined cycle electrical power plants. Several new extensions to Mathematica´s Control System Professional package were used to determine a good control scheme for the gasifier
