Abstract :
In February 1992 agreement was reached between the EBU (G/RC) and SMPTE Committees, to recommend the use of Ethernet architecture to extend the capabilities of the ESbus remote-control system for broadcasting equipment as described in EBU standard Tech. 3245. Additionally, standard, or `industry standard´ protocols were defined for the network and transport layers. The mechanism to be presented in the near future to the approvals committees of both organisations, termed ESnet (or ES-Superbus), is intended to supplement, but not replace, the existing `polled´ protocol, and will permit development of the overall control structure into that of a hierarchical network
