Abstract :
A high-extinction ratio optical wavelength conversion by electroabsorption modulator (EAM) is reported. Taking advantage of long waveguide and quantum-confined-Stark-effect in EAMs, as high as 30 dB extinction ratio of cross-absorption-modulation with clear eye-diagram in 2.5 Gbits/sec transmission is demonstrated from 1550 nm to 1560 nm.
