Abstract :
One of the common problems of mobile packet radio networks (PR nets) is that mobile subscribers have to reach a supporting infrastructure. Due to their limited transmission range and a low density of contact points, it is often not possible to contact the infrastructure directly. For this case, a multihop strategy called MARION (multiple adaptive routing in mobile networks), which takes all the special requirements of a mobile PR net into account is presented. The criteria for the evaluation are introduced, and the protocol is compared with other approaches. MARION is based on a modified flooding technique, and possess an additional algorithm to reduce the large amount of redundant data. Compared with a directed flooding technique, it is shown that MARION is an effective solution for mobile networks
