Abstract :
Inputs to and outputs from component based transmission systems are generally red, green and blue primary signals. Within such systems, there is a wideband luminance channel (Y) and two color difference channels (Pr and Pb) whose spatial and/or temporal resolution are lower than the corresponding properties of the luminance channel. Zero chrominance signals can be used to characterize the luminance channel. The paper introduces isoluminant test signals which can be used to characterize each chrominance channel. Isoluminant test signals capable of time domain or frequency domain analysis are described. Their use to examine all three axes of the system in the time domain is also discussed
