Abstract :
The doughnut lens provides a simple means of enhancing the gain of a primary feed. The structure can be designed to provide gains in the realm of 15-20 dB and bandwidths in excess of 20 %. Since the size of the lens is on the order of a few wavelengths (~3lambda) the aperture efficiency can actually exceed 100% due to optimized edge diffraction effects. It has no measurable impact on the polarization of the primary feed. The resulting antenna is compact and very durable. This antenna configuration is patent protected.
