Abstract :
Small parameter variations are inevitable in physically controlled dynamical systems. This note examines the extent to which optimal control systems satisfy genericity and structural stability which are the key qualitative properties required of any model that is applicable physically. It is claimed that optimal control systems are in general neither generic nor structurally stable
