Abstract :
This paper describes a technique that reduces the number of parameters transmitted in Harmonic Coders. The technique is called Frequency Selective Harmonic Coding (FSHC), and exploits an auditory perception model to extract only a portion of the speech spectrum for quantization. The algorithm has been fully implemented in real-time hardware at the transmission rate of 2400 bps with an improved quality over existing 2400 bps vocoders
