Abstract :
The authors show that a sampling theorem interpolation formula may be exploited to give an algorithm for the integration of bandlimited signals. They compare the results from this algorithm with those from a simple trapezoidal rule and show that the interpolation based algorithm may give superior results when the Nyquist criterion is satisfied. Conversely, when the signals are not bandlimited, the simple trapezoidal rule may give better results. A major disadvantage of the interpolation based algorithm is the processor time required for the analysis of large data lengths because the number of calculations is proportional to the square of the data length and it may then be appropriate to process separately shorter sections of the data, combining the results after integration
