A high spectral purity reference standard for the phase noise characterisation of microwave sources

Describes an X-band discriminator stabilised solid state microwave source with close to carrier phase noise around 15 dB lower than that obtainable from crystal multiplier or phase locked sources. The design is such that the performance achieved is highly repeatable, making the source suitable for use as a reference standard in phase noise measurement
