The authors consider single mode fibre components in the 130/1550 nm window. This includes components which are commercially available, components which have been experimentally demonstrated in the laboratory and also ideas which have yet to be realised. Although the design of current systems uses today´s components, standards must consider also the components and systems of tomorrow
