Abstract :
Wavelength multiplexing is a powerful technique for upgrading telephony passive optical networks (TPON) to provide broadband services. However, the integrated delivery of these services over passive optical networks must be planned at the outset, in order to make efficient use of the fibre wavelength spectrum, hence safeguarding the future enhancement of the network. Two experimental networks are described demonstrating service upgrading using wavelength multiplexing whilst conserving spectrum for future use by improved WDM techniques
