Abstract
The switched reluctance (SR) motor offers the prospect of a low-cost fully controllable brushless motor drive. It requires a low-cost controller which will provide all the necessary control functions for variable speed operation. The LMB 1008 mixed analogue/digital ASIC was designed as a minimum silicon solution to three phase switched reluctance motor control. The authors describe the capabilities and limitations of the controller using the experience gained from a number of LMB 1008 based drives
