Abstract :
Summary form only given. Project management can be split into three aspects; people, techniques, and tools. The people, i.e. the project manager and the project organisation need to understand the techniques, namely a vie work breakdown structures, BCWP/ACWP, etc. in order to control the project. The tools assist in the process of control but are superfluous without an understanding of the techniques. In turn the techniques are meaningless if the people do not know how to use them. To appreciate the techniques it is important to understand the fundamentals, such as; what is a project? what is project management? and what is a project manager? With a clear understanding of these simple facts it puts into perspective the importance of techniques in respect to the control of a project. The only way to control a project is to fully understand the techniques.<>
