Abstract
The authors have developed a new array sensor structure which can capture foot placement with high resolution in space and time over the full walkway area for several consecutive steps at fairly low cost. Around it they are developing a clinical instrument for deriving gait parameters and supporting further analysis. The sensing array is based on a novel principle for sensing and data gathering which is feasible with new amorphous magnetic alloys. The sensing structure on the floor is a 5 mm×5 mm grid of sensing points formed between arrays of conductors and transverse ribbons of amorphous alloy acting as acoustic delay lines
