Abstract
Poor idle quality is a result of the transmission of engine vibration to the vehicle frame. A major solution to this problem is to reduce the amount of vibration from the engine by improving the idle combustion quality. Doing this will reduce the variation in engine speed. A hardware solution to this problem usually requires a compromise to performance at higher engine speeds, and it is also expensive. More often, idle spark control is implemented to control idle speed excursions from desired speed for improved engine idle quality. A fuzzy logic controller has been designed using a few control rules with two input and one output variables for controlling idle speed excursions. The simulation results are promising, but more tuning of the system model is required before the rules and membership functions of the fuzzy logic controller can be tuned
