Abstract :
The author describes some preliminary work being carried out on the numerical prediction of currents flowing on cables in cars, when the care is illuminated by external electromagnetic radiation. A computational design tool would allow a number of alternative cable installations to be rapidly examined for susceptibility, and the optimum parameters selected. The author describes an approach to computing the currents on cables. The electromagnetic model which is used to predict the fields in the neighbourhood and the interior of the car due to an incident wave is described. Some colour graphics produced using this type of model and showing the amplitudes of field components are presented. Methods of calculating currents on cables using the predicted fields are described. Some preliminary results showing predicted field components along a cable, and the current flowing, are presented.<>
