Abstract
An imaging riometer with an 8/spl times/8 antenna array was installed at Zhongshan Station, Antarctica in January 1997. The structure and working principle of the instrument are described. The imaging riometer technique has proved a valuable tool for investigations of the high-latitude ionospheric disturbances. To illustrate the potential of the new technique, this paper discusses the observations at cusp latitudes of sudden cosmic noise absorption events, polar cap absorption (PCA) events and a typical midnight absorption.
