Abstract :
There are two prime motives for the development of smart sensors. The first is to achieve internal compensation of defects, especially for multisensor systems. The second prime motive is to take advantage of developments in digital signal transmission. Serial digital multi-drop buses are robust and economical. These are important factors when one takes into consideration the increasingly hostile electromagnetic environment and the way cabling can become a dominant cost as transducer networks increase in size.
