Abstract
The normal process for making a CD-I title starts with some limited design, conceptualisation and prototyping in order to sell the concept to whoever is funding the project. If an idea gets past this stage then the real design process can start. There are a huge number of ways of designing a CD-I application ranging from storyboarding on paper through simulations on video tape to extensive prototypes in various prototyping tools. The main function of these is to communicate ideas from the designer to the implementors and the backers of the title. The author discusses Macintosh tools, CD-I player based tools, audio and video production tools and programmer tools
