Abstract :
For an airfoil long enough compared with the wavelength, we may use a 2D FDTD to compute its scattered field in the near-region, and an indirect near-to-far field extrapolation to obtain its transient time response. The transient response waveform shows contributions coming from different scattering centers, corresponding to the lit region and shadow region, respectively. The radar absorbing material (RAM) coating around the front edge can depress the main contribution and reduce the RCS of the airfoil effectively.
