Abstract :
Nowadays, as biology has been taught at schools for years, the teachers have been facing a problem on how to get the students involved and encourage them to learn about the biology subject effectively particularly about the structure of cells. Utterly, students can learn the structure of cells from the books that they read. However, do they truly understand and know what a cell looks like? Have they touched one? Can they examine it closely? Besides that, the current method of teaching biology at classroom is too static and petrified. The students just sit and listen to their teachers but can they really understand and learn about the particular topic constructively? There has to be some mechanism to change or improve this. Here a fundamental prototype that has been developed which is called as " An interactive 3D multimedia learning tool in Biology - BioID", is taking advantages from the full- grown potential of IT. The main goal of this prototype is to be used as a tool that is able to teach the users what a cell is, the functions, and to know how the cell looks like interactively. Apart from that, it can be used as a supplement for the teachers in conducting their classes. The BioID contains a lot of multimedia elements, such as texts, images, video and audio. But most importantly, BioID allows the users to interact with the 3D models manifested on a dynamic and interactive interface.
