Abstract :
Observations made in summer with the EISCAT UHF radar have given detailed information on the structure, composition and motions of sporadic E layers of the `descending´ or `sequential´ type, and of the way in which their formation, behaviour and disappearance is controlled by the tidal winds, gravity waves and electric fields in the ambient ionosphere
