Abstract :
An adaptive MFSK modem based on the PICCOLO concept has been developed, primarily as a research platform for the investigation of adaptive HF radio modems. The architecture of the modem is based on an AT and T DSP32C digital signal processor (DSP) integrated within an IBM PC compatible host. The current modem configuration is capable of transmitting and receiving up to 32 signal tones in simplex mode. These tones are independently agile within a 2 kHz bandwidth with a resolution of 1 Hz. The symbol transmission rate may be configured from 10 symbols/s up to 500 symbols/s. The authors briefly describe some of the more interesting features of this modem implementation
