Abstract :
Explores the possibility of using a large existing laboratory to house an open area test site (OATS). The results of preliminary tests on an OATS housed inside a large semi-shielded enclosure appear promising. However testing will have to be carried out on a full size ground plane of at least 6 m×5.2 m, for horizontal as well as vertical polarization and the frequency range will need to be extended down to 30 MHz. The major source of error appears to be the presence of a conductive ceiling. However the large size of the laboratory, coupled with its imperfect `shielded´ construction has resulted in a desirable lack of resonances
