  • Abstract
The discipline of safety engineering uses a wide variety of terms to describe the many techniques that are available to it which can be generally collected within the heading of risk and hazard management. The author defines what is meant by risk analysis and discusses the main factors governing the need to conduct risk analysis. Three examples of the application of risk analysis are discussed: a hazardous industry; a rail system; and risk analysis as a design assessment support for a wind turbine generator. The author briefly discusses how to interpret the risk analysis data
