Abstract
Flexible manufacturing cells are discrete-event dynamic systems. Independent activities, such as machining operations that are made to start and stop, and transportation of parts between machines, can be integrated and controlled to work together. Various techniques can be applied in the design of a FMC, and those addressed are Petri nets, transputers, Occam, fault tolerance, real time and distributed control
