Abstract
The paper reports experimental investigations dealing with the influence of ageing processes on the dielectric dissipation factor, the volume resistivity and the partial discharge inception voltage of carbonized mineral-based transformer oil. The oil was carbonized by stressing it with a defined number of lightning impulses of a known energy and was then subjected, for a period of 1000 hours, to accelerated ageing with metallic catalysts at 20 and 90°C in the presence of oxygen. The analysis of the dielectric properties reveals that ageing of carbonized oil samples leads to a faster and more intensive degradation of the fluid compared to uncarbonized oil
