  • Abstract
Summary form only, as follows. Today the power of computing is in the hands of the users through linked microprocessors. There is therefore a need to evolve the security procedures appropriate to mainframes into the networked microprocessor arena. To effect good security practices requires, at least: training of people, particularly users and system designers; simple to use procedures and software; procedures which are effective to detect errors; and a commitment by all involved never to accept second best. The challenge to everyone involved in the development or use of systems in the future is to create secure user friendly systems where the security elements are willingly used
