Abstract :
SDL (specification description language) has been developed by CCITT to provide a language for unambiguous specification and description of the behaviour of telecommunications systems. The author gives a brief tutorial of SDL using an example of a road traffic control system. He covers the features of SDL that make it suitable for real-time systems and also gives a summary of the additional concepts that have been incorporated into the language, during the current study period, to cope with object-orientation. Although the language has been developed so that it may be used in both a physical representation (PR) and an equivalent graphical representation (GR) this tutorial only includes explanations in GR form
