Abstract :
In this paper a new strategy has been proposed for optimal placement of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) in power systems with a view to minimize the transmission loss. The proposed strategy uses Self Adaptive Firefly Algorithm (SAFA) and identifies the optimal locations for UPFC placement and their parameter. The UPFC placement strategy is applied on IEEE14 bus system and IEEE 30 bus system. The test results are presented which shows that location and parameters of the UPFC identified by the proposed method has been able to minimize the transmission loss.
