Abstract :
Describes an open system called BioPhony for non-invasive measurement of the airway area. BioPhony, in use at Henri Mondor Hospital (Creteil, France), is based on a recent acoustic reflection method (B. Louis et al., “Airway area by acoustic reflection: the two-microphone method,” J. Biomech. Eng., vol. 115, p. 278-85, 1993). BioPhony relies on object-oriented paradigm and specific programming techniques have been used to take into account time constraints. BioPhony offers a friendly user interface, facilities to communicate with other applications, and support for future extensions
