Abstract :
A description is given of the ERSO advanced Winchester disk controller (AWDC), a high-speed microprogrammable data path controller. It can be combined in a circuit with standard local processor and SRAM/DRAM chips to build a very-high-performance multimedia controller including SCSI, ESDI, ST506, ST412, SMD and floppy disk interfaces. The AWDC chip architecture is discussed, covering the LuP interface, host interface, buffer interface and priority resolver, peripheral interface, encoder/decoder and serializer/deserializer, sequencer RAM, ECC/CRC, and FIFO and clock control block
