Title :
The development and manufacture of Sizewell `B´ cables
Author_Institution :
Pirelli Cables, Aberdare, UK
Abstract :
The development of the power and control cable designs required for Sizewell B and any subsequent PWR stations was undertaken over a number of years from 1983, by a consortium of cable manufacturers in conjunction with the CEGB (Central Electricity Generating Board). The author describes how strict requirements for personnel safety and minimising of plant damage in the event of fire together with requirements for Class 1E qualification (safety classified) for use within harsh environment areas of nuclear power stations meant that a completely new range of cables using the latest LSOH compounds had to be developed, type tested and subsequently approved for use
