Abstract :
The Sizewell B main control room (MCR) is the principal control centre for the power station. Within it are the controls and displays required for all operational conditions. It plays an essential role in meeting the safety case for the power station, and is designed to enable the operator to detect and address design basis faults. Should the MCR become damaged or uninhabitable it will be evacuated, and the auxiliary shutdown room (ASR) will be used to shut the plant down. The author describes the design of the MCR and ASR, the process by which they were designed and the verification techniques used to ensure that their design objectives were met
