Abstract :
At the 1991 Vehicular Technology Conference, Southwestern Bell and AT&T demonstrated a functioning indoor microcellular radiotelephone system. To illustrate the hand-off capabilities of the system, more than one logical microcell was employed in the demonstration. The authors describe the test plan for electric field propagation measurements made at the demonstration site. The purpose of these measurements was to examine the polarization characteristics of the propagating RF field originating from the microcell radio base stations. The collected data will be used to characterize the relative amplitude and phase of the horizontally and vertically polarized components of a scattered signal in a typical indoor propagation channel at cellular frequencies. This may provide direction for improved portable terminal antenna design
