Abstract
Although direct measurements of propagation effects are of vital importance for obtaining experimental data applicable to the modelling process, remote sensing methods such as radar are an invaluable complimentary tool. This is particularly true now with the successful exploitation of multi-polarisation techniques, employed, for example, on the Chilbolton dual-polarisation radar. The Chilbolton radar has been used for many years for propagation and cloud physics studies, and the high spatial resolution of the 25 m antenna provides an unparalleled tool for the study of the effects of rain, ice and snow on communications systems. The principal features are detailed
