Abstract :
This paper describes a development method of new data called commercial accumulation (CA) data which can monitor shapes and locations of each CA throughout Japan. The CA data consists of consecutive polygons constructed by buffering techniques based on the Japanese telephone directory which covers throughout Japan. The telephone directory is generally updated every two months. Traditionally, monitoring of commercial areas uses government statistics such as the Census of Commerce or the Census of Establishment and Enterprise. However, these statistics have several limitations to monitor commercial changes continually and locally. This paper shows the possibilities that CA data would yield more valuable information than the Census of Commerce. Also, we showed that this polygon data has high correlation with the Census of Commerce.
