The CCITT has already agreed that ATM is the target transfer mode for future broadband networks and the author considers possible introduction strategies for such networks, the description being based on work within the largest project in the European Commission RACE programme: R1022 Technology for ATD. An architecture appropriate for an ATM multiservice network has been outlined
