Abstract :
A multi-electrode, distributed feedback laser with a tuning range over 1 nm has been demonstrated. A linewidth below 3 MHz over the full tuning range and a minimum linewidth of 2.1 MHz was achieved. An FM response, flat to within 3 dB from 100 kHz to 7 GHz with a modulation efficiency of 450 MHz/mA was obtained. A 2.5 Gbit/s CPFSK experiment performed using this device as the transmitter, resulted in in a receiver sensitivity of -41 dBm at 10-9 BER for a PRBS of 2 23-1
