Abstract :
Periodic metallic arrays printed on dielectric slabs have attracted a lot of interest in the past few decades due to their filtering properties on incident plane waves and their wide number of applications as radomes, polarizers and frequency scanning devices for microwave and optical frequencies. More recently other properties of these metallic arrays have been demonstrated such as certain bands where no surface wave propagation is allowed, electromagnetic band gap (EBG), or surfaces which exhibit high surface impedance (HIS) and due to this the tangential magnetic field vanishes, artificial magnetic conductor (AMC).
