Abstract
Based on the existing VSI X̅ and R charts, a model of performance analysis on a VSI X̅ and R charts is developed with application of B&L switching rule. The Markov chain approach is used to obtain the expressions of ATS, AATS, and ANSW. At the same time, a comparison of the developed and existing VSI X̅ and R charts is presented. The results show the developed model can detect process shifts quickly and reduce the average number of switches between short and long sampling intervals parameters while they are comparable with respect to the average time to signal. With the application of B&L Switching rule, the shortcoming of excessive number of switches among different parameters can be effectively solved. And the recommend switching parameter L is 3.
