Abstract
With the fast development of high-brightness and power light emitting diodes (LEDs), it is necessary to evaluate its colorimetric parameters, and to design LED with both high color rendering index (CRI) and high luminous efficacy of radiation (K) to meet general lighting. A software programme combined both functions was developed in this article. Functions and procedures for calculating colorimetric parameters were written in terms of Commission Internationale de l´Eclairage (CIE) definitions and recommendations. The calculation of the dominant wavelength is optimized to accelerate the search speed and increase the resolution as precise as 0.1 nm. Arbitrary combinations of Gaussian formulas were adopted to design LED spectrum. With continuously designed spectra, the relationship between CRI and K can be intuitionisticly viewed and judged, so an optimal range for both high CRI and K can be easily determined.
