Abstract
A design of such an antenna was developed in an earlier project by Wong and Excell (1989) at Bradford University, using a hexagonal array of seven log-periodic dipole antennas. A numerical model for the array, based on the NEC program, was developed and used with a near field synthesis program based on the regularisation methods of Mautz and Harrington (1975). The antennas chosen for experimental work had a bandwidth from 850 MHz to 1.8 GHz, and hence 1 GHz was chosen as a convenient frequency for initial modelling and experiments
