Abstract :
In Canada a special effort within private industry is in progress to prepare for WARC 1992. Some of the work achieved so far is presented. The long-term spectrum requirements for public (future public land mobile telecommunication systems or FPLMTSs) and private (dispatch) land mobile communications in Canada and the prospects of getting the large amounts of additional spectrum needed are addressed. Issues discussed include CCIR IWP 8/13 estimates of the spectrum needed for the terrestrial component of FPLMTS, other spectrum needs, the choice of bands, the impact on the current users of the preferred bands, and international considerations
