Abstract
In this contribution, we have discussed a narrowband patch antenna, which uses a thick dielectric patch instead of the metal patch, but still operates in the microstrip mode. The corresponding impedance bandwidth of the antenna may be higher than for the metal patch of the same size. A literature search did not indicate prior references related to this particular antenna design. Numerically found radiation efficiency at resonance is about 98% if a model of distilled water is used for the dielectric brick. The efficiency decreases for fresh water, but only slightly. Related experiments either supporting or disproving the model will be presented.
