Abstract :
Broadcasting over the last century or so has witnessed an immense change in its media and the technology involved with it. There have been much research and development but only a few out of these stand-out clearly and can be truly considered as `Stellar´ moments. The very first electricity transmission wirelessly could be said to have marked the birth of broadcasting. Evolution of the antenna provided a whole new dimension to it. From sound propagating over great distances, the shift was made towards image transmission. Subsequently, with the need for more and more information to be transmitted, new and better modulation techniques evolved. This was followed by satellite transmission and a whole new shift in paradigm towards digital communication. This paper attempts to chalk out the most important milestones in the journey from the beginning of broadcasting to its present day implementation.
