Abstract
Describes the latest developments to enhance the performance of our HMM-based handwritten word recognition system. These methods only deal with the recognition phase and involve the improvement of the HMM architecture as well as the optimization of the training phase. Experiments carried out on real data show that the proposed approaches lead to significant improvements in the accuracy of the system
