Abstract
The University of Liverpool designed, installed and project managed the first gas turbine combined heat and power system in an educational establishment in Western Europe. After a careful analysis of the systems available on the market at that time, a 3.65 MW generator set powered by a dual fuel turbine was chosen. The set can generate 7 MW of high pressure hot water via the recovery of the heat in a waste heat boiler in the turbine exhaust gases. However, as these exhaust gases contain a substantial quantity of unburned oxygen (around 11%), if they are reburned in a gas fired supplementary burner, the output can be boosted to 15 MW. The author briefly discusses the installation, operation, and grid connection of the CHP system
